The name “Hawaiian Warriors” was gifted to us from one of our coaches, Samantha Moikeha, in honor of her father and original founder Sammy “Steamboat” Mokuahi, Jr.—A famous professional wrestler and prominent figure in the sporting history of outrigger canoe paddling, he fought for and successfully implemented canoe paddling as a sanctioned high school sport in the State of Hawaii.
Our organization is a member driven group, starting entirely from the ground up, consisting of people who thoroughly enjoy the sport of paddling. On September 20, 2018, we were officially recognized as a nonprofit organization in the state of Hawaii. For the time being, the Hawaiian Warriors Organization will be the umbrella that oversees all paddling functions, even though specific canoe club associations could change, and will further encompass all other member and community endeavors.
Our mission is to provide a positive environment that cultivates traditional Hawaiian values in the community through the sport of Outrigger Canoe Paddling and other cultural activities.
